Airdrop
Free tokens distributed to wallet addresses, usually as a marketing or reward mechanism.
Explained Simply
Airdrops are when blockchain projects send free tokens to users, typically to early adopters, testnet participants, or holders of related tokens. Major airdrops like Uniswap ($UNI), Arbitrum ($ARB), and Jito ($JTO) gave thousands of dollars to qualifying wallets. However, airdrop farming has become competitive, and many 'airdrop' announcements are scams designed to steal your wallet's funds. Never connect your wallet to unverified sites claiming airdrops.
Example
Uniswap airdropped 400 UNI tokens (worth ~$1,200 at the time) to every wallet that had used the protocol before September 2020.
