Explained Simply

Centralized exchanges like Coinbase, Kraken, and Binance are companies that custody your funds and match your trades. They offer fiat on-ramps (buy with USD/EUR), customer support, and regulated services. The trade-off is that you trust the exchange with your funds — as FTX showed, this carries risk. Most beginners start with a CEX for simplicity. Advanced users often move funds to self-custody after purchasing.
