Gas Limit

The maximum amount of gas you're willing to spend on a blockchain transaction.

Explained Simply

Gas limit sets the upper bound of computational work your transaction can consume. Simple ETH transfers use ~21,000 gas. Complex DeFi interactions might use 200,000-500,000+ gas. Setting the gas limit too low causes your transaction to fail (you still pay for the gas used). Setting it too high wastes no money — unused gas is refunded. Most wallets set gas limits automatically, but understanding them helps when transactions fail.

Example

A token swap on Uniswap might need 150,000 gas. If gas price is 30 gwei, the maximum fee is 150,000 × 30 gwei = 0.0045 ETH (~$13.50).
