Mining (Crypto Mining)
The process of using computational power to validate transactions and create new cryptocurrency.
Explained Simply
Mining is how Proof of Work blockchains like Bitcoin process transactions and issue new coins. Miners use specialized hardware (ASICs for Bitcoin, GPUs for some altcoins) to solve complex mathematical puzzles. The first miner to find the solution adds the next block to the chain and earns the block reward plus transaction fees. Mining requires significant electricity and hardware investment, making it increasingly industrialized rather than a hobby activity.
Example
A Bitcoin miner running an Antminer S19 XP uses about 3,000 watts of power and earns roughly 3.125 BTC per block found (shared among pool participants).
